Sara Ziff is seriously one of the most amazing human beings in the world today. I love that she has such a big heart and the drive to make change for the injustices she sees in her everyday life. Granted, her everyday life was something much different that what it is for most, as a member of the fashion elite — a model who once walked the top runways in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. I can only continue to strive to work toward the greatness she has achieved. I want to be a global citizen who makes change, just like she is!

I love me some K. Kloss, but the recent Vogue Italia spread shot by Steven Meisel featuring Karlie made me sick to my stomach. Not because I’m personally offended by Karlie’s super-thin body or visible hip & collar bones (like some are), but because many girls and women who don’t look like that will think, “Wow, this is what you have to look like to get into a fashion magazine? Wow, my body is horrible/awful/fat/disgusting/you-fill-in-the-adjective.”

Now, it’s not my place to judge whether or not Karlie is healthy, so for argument’s sake, let’s say she is. She’s 19 years old. She’s still a teenager. Our bodies change so much throughout our lives, especially after puberty, after we’ve fully developed and our body begins to settle into its new home. How can Vogue Italia feel good about claiming a teenager has THE “body” (as evidenced by the editorial’s title, “Body by Kloss”).

Young girls growing up today don’t realize that bodies change. Why? Because older women are buying into the notion of staying teenager-thin. THAT’S NOT HEALTHY.

I want to write a more informed, researched, and eloquent post about this topic because it really FIRES ME UP, but I have to go to my last class of the semester, peace out girl scouts.

Coco Rocha’s Helping Hand for Haiti 

Coco Rocha slinks down the catwalk like it’s nobody’s business, but she also knows how to walk it like she talks it. A social entrepreneur in training heels, the Canadian-born Coco is involved with several charities, including LakayPAM, a non-for-profit organization that provides more than 500 orphans in Haiti with shelter, food, medical care and education.

Haiti has been on my brain lately, and this image is now stamped on my brain. My friend Katie is working at an orphanage in Haiti, about 45 minutes from Port-au-Prince, and has been for the past month. She is taking care of babies that are literally dropped on the front door step, and they have limited medical equipment for the number of children they house. Two family friends (a father & daughter) are working at the medical hospital in Port-au-Prince together for the week. Now seeing Coco and Behati and the work they’re doing with LakayPAM has continued the circle of inspiration. 

I JUST WANT TO HELP PEOPLE, you know?!

So effortless. Gorge.

Through my new friends at tumblr headquarters I’ve recently come in contact with a very talented new photographer named Jamie. She and her boyfriend create these unique images she calls “cinemagraphs” - more than a photo, but not quite a video.
