Sunday Selection #8
In honor of our country’s birthday, this week’s collage is a bit of Americana. Some rockabilly, some red, white & blue, and a dash of Teen Vogue street style. Enjoy your week!

A little bit grungey, a little bit rock n’ roll. As I have been running on little sleep and fewer showers, I’m finding a new appreciation for the grunge look. I can pass off greasy hair as a fashion statement.

RESORT 2012 EDITION
Those Proenza boys always know how to make me swoon. I love the burnt hues of orange and red. I was told at a young age that I was an “Autumn,” so bring on the fall colors!

Anna Sui chose to tread a simpler path this in-betweason, and I’m a huge fan of these dresses!

RESORT 2012 EDITION
One of the reasons some people don’t “get” fashion is presentation. When the artists of the fashion industry stray from the “norm” (whether it’s showing new silhouettes or cuts, producing an overly dramatic presentation, making offbeat & esoteric references… you get the idea), people turn away, throw their hands up & scoff, “I don’t get it!”
If I would have seen the photos from Rachel Comey’s Resort 2012 collection a few years ago, I would’ve thought it was just plain weird. The masks, severed hands, and strange poses are distracting, and after glancing through the photos once, that’s all I would take away from the presentation — its weirdness. Now, however, I’ve learned to take more than one look at collections like this and I’ve discovered how satisfying it can be!
Without taking a second look, I would’ve missed the beauty of the subdued colors and lacy patterns that weaved throughout the collection. I mean, just look at that chartreuse skirt! Right!?

RESORT 2012 EDITION: PART I

For today’s installment of Sunday Selection, I will posting collage-spam from the recently unveiled Resort 2012 collections. I personally love the in-between seasons (namely, resort & pre-fall) because each designer gets to decide how to present their collections in a more intimate way. Some opt for the presentation method, others choose a runway show, and some create lookbooks.

It’s neat to see how the in-betweasons (like that?) have evolved over the years, what with the explosion of style and fashion communities online with an insatiable appetite for inspirational images.

Although I have yet to look through every Resort collection, my favorite so far is No. 21. The neutral colors & monochrome outfits are impeccably brightened up with pops of subdued salmon pink and kelly green. The mirrors were a little much for my eyes, but the clothes are stunning.

Sorry, I’m belated again, I know!
The Great Outdoors. There’s nothing like a few days of 70-80 degree weather after an insane heat wave to make you appreciate the beauty of being outside. Although fall is my favorite season, I love me some t-shirt & jeans weather with a cool drink, a good book, and a refreshing breeze.

Madewell’s new summer neutrals. The Madewell Musings newsletter that is available in stores each month is sprinkled with these muted colors on Arizona Muse. I’m loving all shades of brown and gray at the moment, so I’m lovin’ this set of looks.

So sorry it’s belated! But since today is a holiday, it’s kind of like the end of the weekend… right? This little snapshot is dedicated to one of my favorite things in the entire world: denim. You can find it anywhere, from worn out, $2 cut-offs to Madewell shirt-jackets and J. Crew chambray to Stella and Celine. Denim is a trend that will NEVER go out of style.
Happy Memorial Day! Rock your denim Americana-style today!

Everything’s coming up egg yolk! February’s international fashion weeks proved that inspiration is ubiquitous. Designers all over the world were drawn to this rich, yolky color, and it popped up in garments and accessories everywhere. Here is a sampling of the “It” color for fall.
Clockwise from top right: Marc by Marc Jacobs, X, Acne (x2), Jil Sander, Proenza Schouler, X, Hermes, Miu Miu (images via vogue.com)
*I forget where I got the looks marked “X” … in the process of looking them up :)
